Neck Pain

AKA Cervical Radiculopathy, Headaches, Migraines, Radiating Arm Pain

Symptoms:
May include neck and arm sensory abnormalities, such as pain (sharp, shooting, achy), numbness, tingling, burning, or cold; and muscular abnormalities, such as spasms, tension, difficulty flexing, weakness, and restlessness.

Who’s affected:
Desk workers due to prolonged positions, may onset after rib cage compression or arm lifting motions.

Recovery time:
Symptoms can often linger without proper guidance. Symptoms radiating further down the arm are often signs of worsening of the condition.

PT approach:
Mobilization of the neck and upper back joints, strengthening and muscle control around shoulder blades, especially muscles attaching to the neck.

Should I see a doctor?
It’s always important to update your doctor about your health, some insurances require it to start PT. You should go to urgent care for any intolerable pain or if any muscles stop working. Direct access to PT is becoming more common.
